Overcoming worry

There are two kinds of worry. One kind of worry is concern for people’s salvation. This is a good kind of worry if it leads us to prayer. Apostle Paul was always concerned about the churches, about their faith and their spiritual condition. When he felt concern for them, he prayed. Prayer is the solution for worry.

The other kind of worry is worry about material things, our future, or our past. That kind of worry means that you don’t trust God.

Psalm 37:3-5
3 Trust in the Lord, and do good;
Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.
4 Delight yourself also in the Lord,
And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
5 Commit your way to the Lord,
Trust also in Him,
And He shall bring it to pass.

Commit your ways to God and He will bring it to pass. When you worry, you discharge and insult God.

Matthew 6:34
34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

God wants us to be faithful to Him today.

Philippians 4:6-10
6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. 9 The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.
10 But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at last your care for me has flourished again; though you surely did care, but you lacked opportunity.

When you worry, you see everything through your own eyes, rather than through God’s eyes and the eyes of faith.

Worry is Satan’s weapon of destruction. We must overcome worry, fear, and doubt.

How do we overcome worry, fear, and doubt?
#1 Make God your father

Make your relationship with God personal. See God as your father. Make God your God, your father. God is not just Jesus’ father – He is your father.

Your parents know what you need. They care about your needs and want to take care of you. When you view God as your father, you will realize how much He wants to take care of you and protect you and help you.

Your parents sometimes have to discipline you. They speak the truth to you. They give you advice and tell you how to be successful. God is the same way. He will correct you and tell you the way you should go. He does this because of His love for you.

Say to yourself, “My father God in heaven knows all of my needs. He takes really good care of me. He is more than enough.”

Those who accept God become children of God.

John 1:12-13
12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

Isaiah 43:1
1 But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob,
And He who formed you, O Israel:
“Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by your name;
You are Mine.

We belong to God.

When you have something that belongs to you, you take good care of it. Think of your car. You get car washes. You vacuum and clean it out. You get oil changes and regular maintenance. You take care of it because it’s yours. You don’t expect your neighbors to take care of your car because it doesn’t belong to them.

God takes care of you because you belong to Him.

#2 Deny the right to live life our own way

When you live life your own way, you become very sensitive. You are easily hurt and offended by others.

Matthew 6:9
9 In this manner, therefore, pray:
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.

When you live life your own way, you limit God and His ability to work in your life. When you insist on doing things your way, God cannot move in your life in His way.

#3 Have a thankful heart

We all need to have a grateful heart to God and give thanks to Him for the people in our lives. We need to thank Him for good health and provision. We need to thank Him for the things we see as good and the things we see as bad.

Do not rejoice only when you think everything is going well, but in the midst of trial, too.

Romans 8:28
28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.

#4 Take care of everything by prayer and supplication

When something happens in your life, do you talk to everyone you see about the problem? Or do you focus on the solution? Do you talk or do you pray?

When you pray, you are able to surrender all of your worry and fear to God. Prayer is the solution for worry.

God bless you,
