Those who have an assignment never die

“Those who have an assignment never die.” – David Livingstone

God has given each of us an assignment. When God gives you an assignment, He knows you can handle it.

God gave Moses the assignment of delivering Israel from Egypt and bringing them to Canaan. God gave Joshua the assignment of conquering the nations of Canaan and bringing Israel in to claim the Promised Land.

Joshua had a lot of confidence when he went to spy out the Promised Land, but after 40 years of watching Moses deal with the stiff-necked Israelites, he lost his confidence. God told him He was with him over and over again. He told him to be brave and bold. Why? Joshua had lost his confidence.

He probably figured that if the Israelites wouldn’t listen to Moses that they definitely wouldn’t listen to him.

Joshua 1:1-4
1 After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, it came to pass that the Lord spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, saying: 2 “Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them—the children of Israel. 3 Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses. 4 From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the River Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your territory.

God used Moses very powerfully, but he still died. After his death, someone had to carry that ministry. Joshua realized that God wanted to use him to conquer Canaan. God appointed Joshua.

One of the most powerful things in our lives is to know what kind of assignment God has for us, to know the purpose of our lives.

When God gives you an assignment, you do not need to fear. God knows your ability and will not give you an assignment that is bigger than you can handle.

When God called Moses, he had an attitude. When God called Joshua, he was fearful. But God was with both of them.

When God calls you, He will be with you. Do not fear.

When God called Joshua, he felt overwhelmed by the burden of this calling and fear took over.

When Joshua first spied out the land, he was encouraged and bold and strong in faith that God could take them into the Promised Land.

Numbers 13:30
30 Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, “Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.”

Numbers 14:5-9
5 Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the children of Israel.
6 But Joshua the son of Nun and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, who were among those who had spied out the land, tore their clothes; 7 and they spoke to all the congregation of the children of Israel, saying: “The land we passed through to spy out is an exceedingly good land. 8 If the Lord delights in us, then He will bring us into this land and give it to us, ‘a land which flows with milk and honey.’ 9 Only do not rebel against the Lord, nor fear the people of the land, for they are our bread; their protection has departed from them, and the Lord is with us. Do not fear them.”

Why did God use Joshua? He had passion and zeal and confidence in the Lord. He saw things through the eyes of God.

When you look at things through the eyes of humans, you will lose God’s favor. When God gives you an assignment, see it through the eyes of God. Trust God. Have a humble heart. Do not fear. Know that He is with you.

God spoke to Joshua to be strong and bold.

Joshua 1:5-6
5 No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you. 6 Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them.

When God calls you, no one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life.

Speak to yourself and say: “No one will be able to stand against me all the days of my life.”

God promised Joshua that he would never be alone. When people feel alone, their problems look so big. When people feel fear, their problems look so big. The evidence of His promise was that he commanded Joshua not to fear. When we know that God is with us, we need not fear.

When we take care of God’s assignment, we must do so by the Word of God.

Joshua 1:7-9
7 Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. 8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Don’t just read or study one time. Don’t just study when you have energy or extra time. Study and meditate on the Word of God always, no matter what. If you want to overcome the fears and trials and pressures in your life, you must always meditate on the Word of God.

We need to take this very seriously and apply it to our lives. Meditate on the Word of God no matter what circumstance you are in.

Find the assignment of God in your life. Pray and seek for Him to show you the assignment that He has for you. Be faithful to little things. Be faithful to minister to people and love them and pray for them. As you are faithful to little things, God will expand your ministry and your calling.

Those who have an assignment and live in the purpose of God will never die.

God bless you,
Pastor Sun East
