I Will Never Let You Go

Scripture shows us how God used Elijah and Elisha.

In 2 Kings 2:1, Elijah knew that God would take him to heaven. They stood at Gilgal and Elijah told Elisha to stay there. Elisha said, “I will never let you go.” We need to have that attitude. Elisha received a double portion of Elijah’s anointing because he was so faithful and passionate about God’s work. He refused to leave Elijah’s side no matter what.

We need to tell Jesus, “I will never let you go.”

Gilgal has a powerful history. When Joshua and Israel crossed the Jordan River that had been dried up, they picked up 12 stones from the bottom of the riverbed. They carried those stones to Gilgal and built an altar there. That altar was a memorial for them, reminding them about this miracle.

“Gilgal” means “rolling over.” This means your pain, your suffering, your shame is over, rolling away. A new life is waiting for you.

When Israel came to Gilgal it was a signal of their new life. When Israel came to the Promised Land, they were circumcised again. Remember, when they were in the wilderness for 40 years, they didn’t circumcise their children. Finally, now, they were circumcised. This meant that God acknowledged them again, that God acknowledged them as His chosen people. This meant that they were separated from the world and were now God’s children.

Gilgal meant that their life of slavery was over and their new life as children of God had begun.
