Honor God by Hating Evil

When we know that we really need God, we will honor Him. We will trust and obey Him. Those who honor God do not rely on their own wisdom, but the wisdom of God.

Honor God means trust God 100%. Obey God. When you honor God, you forsake evil. Hate evil.

Those who honor God do not lean on their own wisdom. They only lean on God.

Proverbs 16:6
6 In mercy and truth
Atonement is provided for iniquity;
And by the fear of the Lord one departs from evil.

The reason this world is filled with evil is that they do not honor God. If you truly honor God, you will not watch evil things. If you truly honor God, you will not do thing that don’t please God. If you truly honor God, you will hate evil thoughts that come to your mind. You will hate perversion.

Ecclesiastes 12:13-14
13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter:
Fear God and keep His commandments,
For this is man’s all.
14 For God will bring every work into judgment,
Including every secret thing,
Whether good or evil.

If you honor God, you will hate evil.

God will expose sin. Why? Not because He wants to destroy you but to give you a chance to repent.

Psalm 34:12-14
12 Who is the man who desires life,
And loves many days, that he may see good?
13 Keep your tongue from evil,
And your lips from speaking deceit.
14 Depart from evil and do good;
Seek peace and pursue it.

When we honor and obey God, we will hate evil. That is a part of honoring God. Hating evil music and TV shows and movies is a part of honoring God. Loving the things that God loves and doing the things that God tells you to do is part of honoring God. Separating yourself from evil is a part of honoring God.

How can we have the wisdom of God? When you honor God and live an honest and truthful life, you will have wisdom. When you honor God and do the things that please Him, you will have wisdom. When you walk with wise people, you will have wisdom.

God gives wisdom to those who are obedient to Him, to those who are truthful and honest.

Those who honor God will experience victory and miracles. Walk in obedience and honor. Then you will experience miracles and see victory in your life.

Don’t expect to have victory when you are walking in disobedience and rebellion. You see victory because you obey God. You see victory because you have fellowship with others who obey and honor God.

Don’t think that you will be blessed and experience miracles when you are promoting evil. You might sometimes benefit from the holy walk of those around you, but eventually God will cut you off from them, unless you choose to walk in holiness as well.

There are many examples in the Bible of when God cuts off the evil from the good (ex. Aaron’s sons who offered profane fire before the Lord).

Proverbs 15:33
33 The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom,
And before honor is humility.

Those who honor and obey God will experience God. When you have an experience with God, the Bible becomes your story. When you walk with God, when you honor God, when you obey God, the story of Jesus becomes your story. If you still see it as someone else’s story (as Israel’s story or Jesus’ story or Moses’ story), then you need to experience God.

Honor God by hating evil.

If you don’t hate evil, you don’t honor God. Work out your salvation with fear and trembling – we need to fear the Lord. Fearing the Lord doesn’t mean being afraid of the Lord, but honoring and respecting Him. Fearing the Lord means hating evil.

If you honor the Lord you know that your sin will be exposed so you will not want to continue doing evil. Fear of the Lord is respect for the Lord, the desire for God to think that you are good. Fear of the Lord is the desire to not hurt God with your sin.

Our relationship with God is similar to a child’s relationship with their parents. Naturally, a child has the desire to please their parents. They want their parents to see them as good, not evil. They don’t want to hurt their parents. They don’t want them to feel sad or hurt or angry because of them.

We should have this same kind of respect and honor for God.

Ephesians 5:1
1 Therefore be imitators of God as dear children.

When you imitate good, you will become good. When you imitate evil, you will become evil. That is why it is so important to separate from evil, to not fill your mind and heart with evil.

We must imitate God to be like Him. We are made in God’s image. We will only be satisfied and happy and whole when we imitate God and become like Him.
