How do we show love?

1 Corinthians 13:8-13 talks about love. Love is everlasting. Everything else will pass away. All of your gifts will pass away but love will not pass away.

How do we show love?

  1. Paying attention

Pay attention to others. Pay attention to God. You pay attention to someone when you love them. When you love God, you pay attention to what He wants. When you love your children, you pay attention to them.

  1. Being responsible

Take care of people, take care of God’s business to the end. If you love someone, you will not be irresponsible. Parents love children so they are responsible to change their diapers and feed them and wash their clothes. If you love God, you will be responsible to take care of His business; you will serve Him, obey Him, and honor the Sabbath Day. If you love God, you will be responsible to take care of the church and give tithes. If you love someone, you will cook for them and clean the house for them.

  1. Respect and honor

If you love someone, you will show that person respect and honor; they become the center of your life. You will not be the center of your life anymore. Your life will become about them instead of yourself. If you love God, He will be the center of your life. Your life will be about God instead of about yourself.

  1. Understanding

When you love someone, you want to understand him or her and go into a deeper relationship with him or her. When you love God, you want to go deeper in your study of the Word and in your relationship with Him; you want to know more and more about Him. If you love your spouse, you will have the desire to know more about them.

Sin is poison. If poison is growing in the life of someone you love, you will want to see them set free. You will speak the truth to them. When you see sin in your spouse, your children, or your friend, you will speak the truth to them so that they can overcome and be set free.

  1. Giving

If you love someone, you will give all to that person. If you love God, you will want to give all to Him. If God is the One that you truly love, you will give to Him. You will want to give all to Him. If you only give a little bit, it’s because you only love a little bit. Love does not hold back. Love isn’t selfish.

  2. Excellent description of how our relationship with God should be! I was touched especially by the description of how to show love. If we love someone we pay attention to them and make sure they are taken care of. So it should be with our relationship with God and the kingdom!

  3. Having a good understanding of God’s love and godly love is very needed. Many people have the poor understanding of what love is.
