Jesus is Our Comforter

Jesus always wants to comfort our hearts. He understands our hearts more than anyone else. He is here to comfort our hearts. The book of John tells us that the Holy Spirit is our comforter. 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 tells us that Jesus is our comfort.

2 Thessalonians 2:16-17
16 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and our God and Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting consolation and good hope by grace, 17 comfort your hearts and establish you in every good word and work.

There are many people who are frustrated because they feel like no one understands them or comforts them. Do not seek comfort from people. You will only be disappointed. Find comfort in Jesus Christ.

When you are busy trying to protect your heart, when you are bitter because no one understands you, you actually close yourself off from the love of God.

Jesus spoke to the church of Ephesus in Revelation 2:4-5 that they did many good works but lost love for God. He told them to go back to the place where they lost their first love.

If you have lost your first love and you are struggling, go back to that place where you lost His love. Jesus wants you to have first love for Him. He taught us how to love one another. He first loved us.

Ephesus served God passionately. They did many good works with passion. But they lost their first love as time passed by. Jesus chastised them for losing their love and told them to bring their passion back. Bring passion and love and fire back to your relationship with God, to your ministry, to your life.

The church of Ephesus focused on love in the beginning. They had passion and love for God. They focused on love so much that they forgot truth. Then after time, they lost love. They went the other way. They focused so much on truth that they lost love. We must have both. We must have both love and truth.

Believers without love are like salt without flavor. Bring your first love back to your heart again.

If you are hurting, Jesus is here to love you and comfort you and heal you. If you’ve been hurt, if you are broken, just ask God to heal you. Ask Jesus to be your comfort.

Hebrews 7 tells us that Jesus is our everliving God, our eternal priest. This means that He is our mediator; He will connect us with God.

In the Old Testament, when someone wanted to talk with God, they had to go through the priest. But now Jesus is our priest. He is in us so we can go straight to God.

Jesus is our priest, our mediator. He wants to connect us with God. He is also our comforter. He comforts our heart. We don’t have to seek comfort from humans in this world. No one will truly understand you like Jesus does.

Hebrews 7:24-25
24 But He, because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood. 25 Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.

Jesus is our intercessor. Jesus is praying for us. He is praying according to the desires of our hearts. God gives us the desires of our hearts (Psalm 37). We have a priest, a comforter, and an intercessor within us. We live in such a good time.

When the church in Ephesus lost love, they had a lot of strife and division. What kills the church? Hatred and unforgiveness. We must keep our first love for Jesus. When we love Jesus, we can also love one another.

God bless you,
Pastor Sun East

  4. This hits so close to home for me in that someone I deeply love and care about sought comfort from people, and put people on pedestals. She was hurt when those people turned out to be human, and allowed her heart to become bitter, angry, and unforgiving.
Jesus, please let your love touch and heal her heart. Save her, in Jesus’ name.
God bless you Pastor Sun East! Thank you for this teaching.

  5. It’s always been an unusual thought to me when I read that Jesus is praying for us. I guess I think of Him as being next to the Father anyway, so it never made sense. After reading this post, I have better understanding, thank you.

  6. I am so glad to have Jesus in my life He truly is my comforter, like you said Pastor Sun East, people will disappoint us, that is why Jesus came, to be that One who does not disappoint us. He knew our need and came to comfort us when we need that comforting. His tender compassions fail not!
