What kind of fasting pleases God? How can we please Him?
What kind of worship and service does God accept? Help people to be set free from chains and bondage and addiction. Give and share love.
Isaiah 58:6-7
6 “Is this not the fast that I have chosen:
To loose the bonds of wickedness,
To undo the heavy burdens,
To let the oppressed go free,
And that you break every yoke?
7 Is it not to share your bread with the hungry,
And that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out;
When you see the naked, that you cover him,
And not hide yourself from your own flesh?
Our attitude toward the poor and needy is our attitude towards Jesus.
If we don’t help others, God is not pleased. If we reject them, we do not know Jesus. God chose us and accepted us as His children so that we would help others come to Him.
Feed the hungry. Comfort those who are sick. Clothe the naked.
Proverbs 19:17
17 He who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord,
And He will pay back what he has given.
Proverbs 14:31
31 He who oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker,
But he who honors Him has mercy on the needy.
We need to love people the way God loves them. We need to take care of people the way God takes care of them.
If we do the things that please God, our light shall dawn in the darkness. The Lord will guide us and satisfy us in drought.
Isaiah 58:8-11
8 Then your light shall break forth like the morning,
Your healing shall spring forth speedily,
And your righteousness shall go before you;
The glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard.
9 Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer;
You shall cry, and He will say, ‘Here I am.’
“If you take away the yoke from your midst,
The pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness,
10 If you extend your soul to the hungry
And satisfy the afflicted soul,
Then your light shall dawn in the darkness,
And your darkness shall be as the noonday.
11 The Lord will guide you continually,
And satisfy your soul in drought,
And strengthen your bones;
You shall be like a watered garden,
And like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.
The things that we do to please God will be the keys to open the windows of heaven.
Fasting is a weapon of strong faith.
When we do things God’s way, it is very powerful and awesome.

Thank you for this teaching series on fasting. It has helped me to understand what the heart attitude needs to be.
I never realized that fasting had so many different layers and meaning in our spiritual life.
That passage in Isaiah is one of my favorites, and this is the best explanation I’ve had of it.
