Give God True Fasting

Fasting is good, but the wrong type of fasting will bring a curse to our lives.

When we fast, there are things that we must avoid so that our fasting will be effective and will please God. If we do certain things while we fast, our fasting will not matter.

When you are fasting, watch out for these things:

  1. When you fast, do not try to enjoy your life in this world. Do not seek to entertain yourself or have fun in this world. Give up anything that is in this world or that pleases your flesh.
  2. Do not lie or steal or use other people for your own benefit. When you fast, do not cheat or use anyone.
  3. When you fast, do not fight or argue with others. Do not cause division.

These things will stop your prayers from going up to God. God will not move powerfully through your time of fasting if you do any of these things.

Be obedient to God and walk in the Spirit.

Jeremiah 14:12
12 When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and grain offering, I will not accept them. But I will consume them by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence.”

If we give God the wrong type of fasting, it will not profit us anything; He will not accept our fasting offering.

Isaiah 58:3-4
‘Why have we fasted,’ they say, ‘and You have not seen?
Why have we afflicted our souls, and You take no notice?’
“In fact, in the day of your fast you find pleasure,
And exploit all your laborers.
Indeed you fast for strife and debate,
And to strike with the fist of wickedness.
You will not fast as you do this day,
To make your voice heard on high.

When we fast, what should we do?

  1. Do not have a sad face.
  2. Make yourself clean and make yourself look good. Put everything in order. Put your house in order.

When we fast, we need to fast with the right attitude. That will please God.

God will not accept your offering unless He is pleased with it. God will not accept your worship, your giving, your sacrifice, whatever it is that you present to Him, unless it pleases Him.

When you give God an offering that does not please Him, you become a burden to Him.

Isaiah 1:13
13 Bring no more futile sacrifices;
Incense is an abomination to Me.
The New Moons, the Sabbaths, and the calling of assemblies—
I cannot endure iniquity and the sacred meeting.

Give God true fasting and worship, which delights Him.

Isaiah 58:5
Is it a fast that I have chosen,
A day for a man to afflict his soul?
Is it to bow down his head like a bulrush,
And to spread out sackcloth and ashes?
Would you call this a fast,
And an acceptable day to the Lord?

God bless you,
