Revelation chapter 16, part 2

We can compare the judgments of Revelation 16 to the judgments of the ten disasters that God brought to Egypt when delivering the children of Israel.

If the Pharaoh in Egypt had obeyed God, they could have avoided these disasters, but they didn’t want to obey. They didn’t want to give up their slaves at first, but later on, they didn’t want to give up their pride. The Pharaoh was very stubborn, arrogant, and prideful. We can criticize him for this, but when we look at our hearts, we must admit that we also deal with stubbornness, arrogance, and pride.

Pharaoh gambled with God. How? He tested God. If you test God, if you gamble with God, you will lose every time. Sometimes you will go through a disaster if you test or gamble with God.

Pharaoh wanted to hold on to Israel. When God says that you need to cut off a relationship with someone or let someone go, you need to obey.

First plague: Water turns into blood (Exodus 7:14-25)
Second plague: Frogs (Exodus 8:4-8)
Third plague: Lice (Exodus 8:16-18)
Fourth plague: Flies (Exodus 8:20-24)
Fifth plague: Livestock had a disease (Exodus 9:2-7)
Sixth plague: Boils (Exodus 9:8-12)
Seventh plague: Thunder and Hail (Exodus 9:22-26)
Eighth plague: Locusts — Grasshoppers (Exodus 10:4-7)
Ninth plague: Darkness (Exodus 10:21-23)
Tenth plague: Death of the firstborn (Exodus 12:29-30)

God’s judgment is scary. This happened in the Old Testament. Now sin has grown much bigger. Can you imagine how much greater the judgment that will come during the time of the tribulation? A much greater disaster is coming to the world. In the Old Testament, it only came to Egypt, but in the tribulation this disaster will come to the entire world.

Pharaoh finally relented after all of these disasters. He allowed the Israelites to leave Egypt.

When you want to run to the light of Jesus Christ, Satan will try everything in his power to keep you from running to the light. Just like with the children of Israel, Egypt refused to let them go and serve God until they had been judged over and over again. You don’t have to continually live in bondage. Just keep pushing through so that you can come out of the darkness. God is there to help you.

Whatever sin that you are dealing with is your Egypt. Your Egypt could be depression, worry, your family, sexual sin, laziness, loneliness, or being critical. Israel had a hard time getting set free, but they didn’t give up. You must not give up. Keep pushing and pushing to be set free. You can do it.

Pharaoh lost so much by gambling with God. Stop gambling with God. Stop testing God. How are you testing God? By continually dealing with your sin when God has given you the key to be set free. By holding onto your sin. By walking in disobedience.

How long are you going to stay in Egypt? God gave you the way to be set free from Egypt a long time ago. God gave you that key. You need to use that key to come out of Egypt. When you got saved, you received the key to be set free from all sin. You can do it. Don’t just sit down and get angry and analytical and more depressed. You have the key to overcome your sin.

God bless you!

  1. I love the analogy of “coming out of Egypt” I had to read this several times. Thank you for such helpful guidance.

  2. Our country is in the midst of “testing” God. We should step back and look at “how that’s working out for us”!
