Put on the New Man, part 2

Don’t look back to the place that God has delivered you from. Fight the good fight – resist all evil. Resist temptation. Resist every evil thought and desire in your mind. It doesn’t mean that you physically fight with someone, but that you fight the battle against evil in your mind.

2 Timothy 4:7

7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

We must fight the good fight. We must run with the new things that God has given us. We must resist old things. We must resist negative thoughts that come into our minds. Satan brings bad memories from your past. Satan will always try to take you back to your old land, to take you back to your old things, to convince you to do things the old way. That is how he tries to pull you out the Promised Land. Satan wants to use old things to keep you in bondage.

As long as you are looking back, missing and desiring old things, you will not be successful where you are right now. You will be in bondage and chains. Your heart will always be heavy. Your spirit will be sick. Satan wants to bring old things to your mind to pull you down. That way you can’t move forward in what God has for you. As long as Satan has a hold of you with old things, your spirit will be sick. You will be sad, oppressed, and depressed.

If you have disease in your body, you cannot run. If you don’t have disease, you can run. God wants you to run. Satan wants to pull you back to your past. He wants to drag you down so that you cannot run the race.

How do you resist the devil? He doesn’t come with horns and a sledge hammer. Satan comes with old things, old habits, old music, old thoughts, old furniture, old clothes, and old friends.

Colossians 3:9-10

9 Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, 10 and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him…

Do not lie to one another. Put off the old man. Why do you want to go back to your old man? Why do you want to go back to the old ways of doing things? Why do you want to go back to your old ways of thinking? Why do you want to go back to your old bondage? It is time for new things.

Put on the new man. New character. New way of thinking. Some people think that their character is fixed, never to be changed. Some people are really proud about their character – they think it’s so good. But God wants us to be renewed through the Word of God. We should have the character of Jesus. Without God’s character, we are not good. God is able to renew your character. How? Through prayer and studying the Word of God, serving others and fasting.

God bless you!

  1. The truth is, that I really don’t want to go back to the “old” person I used to be. I can see my old tendencies rising up when I am hurt, so I need to always be aware of my weakness to sin in that area.
