The Triumphal Entry, part 2

Sometimes we don’t understand what God tells us to do. Sometimes it doesn’t make sense to us. In the book of Joshua, it didn’t make sense when God told them to march around the city of Jericho. But if you really want to see a miracle in your life, you must be obedient.

You must also sanctify yourself (Joshua 3:5-6). Sanctification means that you live a holy life, separate from this world. You must hate all evil — discharge everything evil from your life.

Being obedient to God is for your own benefit. Your obedience will bring blessing to you.

When Jesus entered into the city, riding the donkey, the disciples laid their garments on the road before Jesus. What do garments represent? Your garment is used to hide your nakedness and shame (Genesis 3:17, 21). It is used for protection. Your garment can also be your identity (for example: police officer, doctor, judge, etc…).

Romans 13:14 tells us to “put on” the Lord Jesus Christ. The disciples were willing to give up protection, comfort, and their own identity to become like Jesus. Take off the garment of your own identity and put on the identity of Christ.

God bless you!

  1. Really encouraging post Pastor Sun Hui East, I have forwarded it to all my extended family!

  2. Sanctification is a tough one, it does mean giving up everything… and our definition of “everything” is different than God’s definition of giving up everything. I need His help

  3. Lord, please help me obey you even when it makes no sense to me, give me faith to trust You, forgive me for being so selfish

  4. When we look at what it means to live a holy life, it is often overwhelming (especially as we begin to analyze what all that entails). The Lord is kind though, we need to have faith that He will take us through each step easily…
