The Triumphal Entry, part 1

Zechariah 9:9 prophecies that Jesus will enter the city on a colt, the foal of a donkey. This colt represents the Gentiles, who are saved through the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.

Zechariah 9:9
“Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!
Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, your King is coming to you;
He is just and having salvation,
Lowly and riding on a donkey,
A colt, the foal of a donkey.

Donkeys are meek. They are not really good for battle. Jesus did not come to fight, but to bear the burden of our sin.

Jesus came to be the Lord of our lives. What does it mean to be Lord? First, it means “husband”. Jesus is the lover of our souls. Second, Lord means “king”. Zechariah called Jesus “king” in his prophecy. A king has the highest position of authority. Last, Lord means “owner”. Jesus paid the price for us (1 Corinthians 6:20); He owns us.

Examine your life, have you been giving yourself to God, to use as He wills? Or have you been trying to keep ownership of your life for yourself? Have you been taking care of Jesus’ business first or have you been taking care of His business with your leftover time? If He is your Lord, you should obey Him immediately and yield yourself to His will.

Trial, misery, sadness, loneliness, and sickness come when we disobey God. All of these things came to humankind when Adam and Eve disobeyed in the Garden of Eden. When you disobey God, you will feel unsettled and fearful about your future. You will be afraid to go to God boldly in your prayers because you know your sin and your heart towards God.

If you’ve been faithful and obedient to God, you will be confident and hopeful about your future. Plant seeds of peace, trust, and healing into your life.

God bless you!

  1. Wow, I love the description of a husband being “the lover” of our soul. That is beautiful and helps me understand that relationship with the Lord so much better. It makes me smile. Great Easter post Pastor Sun Hui East, thank you!!

  2. It is so very true that all those sad, heavy emotions come when we are disobedient. Why don’t I learn?

  3. Giving ourselves to God is the best way to describe it, and somehow, I seem too selfish to accomplish that fully. I need His help, I want His help

  4. I often don’t wan’t to obey because there is something (some kind of outcome) that I want. When will I learn to let go?
