Revelation chapter 12, part 2

Revelation 12:3 talks about a great, fiery red dragon. Who is the red dragon? The serpent of old. He used to be called Lucifer. A long time ago, he was in a very high place. He was a very high class angel, the third highest in heaven. But he lifted himself up in pride, so God kicked him out in heaven. He now lives in between heaven and earth.

During the time of creation, God said that everything was good, except for this part of the creation. For this alone, He said “It was so” (Genesis 1:6-8) Why didn’t God say that it was good? God knew that Satan would dwell there and use his power to destroy people’s lives.

In Revelation 12:4, Satan seduced 1/3 of the angels to turn away from God. These angels became demons. When demons come against us, angels fight for us. When we try to make the right choice, demons and angels are also fighting for us, to help us make the right choices. We have to make the choice, but we are not alone. God’s angels are fighting for us.

Those 2/3 angels were steadfast for God. The 1/3 attack those who want to do God’s work. They have an assignment to destroy those who do the work of God. If you try to make the choice for God, Satan will not like that so he will try everything in his power to destroy you. The good news is that God always wins. Even this day, demons attack people but angels help us and fight the battle for us.

In the time of Adam, when God kicked him out of heaven, Satan made the earth his headquarters. Satan deceived Adam and Eve 6,000 years ago. He took control over the earth when Adam and Eve handed it over to him. God was not willing to just watch, so He sent Jesus, His only Son, to take back what Satan has stolen from us. Genesis 3:15 tells us that God will take back what the devil has taken from us. God sent Jesus, who stepped on Satan’s head. When Satan heard this prophecy, he started trying to destroy the woman’s seed (in Genesis 4). In Genesis 4, he killed Abel.

Revelation 12:4 says that the red dragon tried to devour the Child that the woman bore. Even since Genesis 3:15 and God’s prophecy, Satan has gone after everyone who he thought was the Savior or might come from that bloodline. Abel was very obedient to God. Cain was very disobedient. Satan did not want the Savior to come through the bloodline of Abel, so his goal was to kill him. (Genesis 4:1-15)

1 John 3:12 tells us that Cain killed Abel because he was seduced by Satan. Afterward, the earth became very evil, which is why God saved Noah but brought judgment on the world. Satan has still been trying to kill the Messiah throughout history, even through people like Hitler.

There is a spiritual world which we cannot see. From time to time, God allows someone to see the spiritual world. There is a battle going on for every soul. On the one hand, the devil is talking to us, trying to convince us to sin, that a life without God would be a great life. Then, our conscience and the Holy Spirit are speaking to show us that the devil is a liar. We must allow our conscience to listen to the voice of God. God speaks through our conscience, through Scripture, through teaching, sometimes through an audible voice.

  4. This teaching shows me how scared the devil is of God’s plan and how he will do anything to destroy it. It also reminds me to be watchful and alert as to what is going on in my life.

  5. The Book of Revelation is relevant for the church today! We must hold onto our Lord Jesus Christ with all our heart! With a pure and clean heart that the blood of Jesus has purified. As long as we are breathing it is not too late to get right with God, His arms are open to love and forgive us….. No matter what we have done or have failed to do. Then turn and do likewise. Thanks Pastor Sun East for this post, I love it!

  6. God always has a remnant of people that follow Him. So even with the lies in the end God and His people win.

    1. Hi Markus,
Remember, even Jesus had to fight with Satan in Matthew 4. The spiritual world affects our daily lives. When we acknowledge the power of the spiritual world, we will be able to fight evil more effectively and bring victory to our lives.
      God bless you,
      Pastor Sun
