1 Samuel 2:30 clearly shows that if you honor God, He will honor you. To honor God means that we give Him respect and have fear of the Lord (which means that we hate all evil).
Why should we honor God? First, He is our Creator. Honoring the One who made you is the right thing to do. Second, He is perfect. He is the master of everything. Everything moves by His hand. He is in control. Third, God will honor you as much as you honor Him.
How do we show our honor and respect for God? By our actions. By honoring the Sabbath day. Luke 6:5 tells us that the Sabbath day belongs to Jesus. Honoring the Sabbath day means that we fast this world. We do not seek to satisfy our own desires or fulfill our own plans. We choose to do those things that please God, like going to church, helping the needy, feeding the poor, giving encouragement and hope and the message of salvation to others.
We also honor God by giving to Him. Give your tithes and offerings to God. Give Him your time and your energy. Giving is the action of love. Through your giving, you will show God your love and respect for Him.
We honor God by opening our ears to hear His voice and receive the message that He has for us. Use the Sabbath day to date God. Dress up for Him. Prepare your heart to hear what He desires to tell you. When you have a date with someone that you love, you prepare for it. You look forward to it. You don’t let anything come in the way of your plans. Have that attitude when it comes to the time that you spend with God, then when you are with Him, share your thoughts, your dreams, your desires. Have intimate fellowship with God.
We also honor God by remembering His sacrifice and what He has done for us. Remember where you came from, the darkness that you were in. Remember how God brought you out of the darkness and into His light. Remember how Jesus died on the cross, resurrected from the dead, and promised to come back again. Remember and remind one another not to get caught up with this world. Always guard your heart and put Jesus first.

I agree with you about this, but giving tithes is also a command from God, so I see it as more of respect for His law

In my job as a police officer, I have had to show honor to our country and its laws. It makes a lot of sense to keep my focus on God and make sure that I am honoring Him. After everything is said and done, Christ is the only One that doesn’t change (our country’s character changes all the time). I appreciate your explanation of this Pastor Sun Hui East, my older son, even though he is still young, liked this post as well!
My spiritual life really took off after I began to understand that I needed to honor the Lord (not just make and effort to obey… my heart needs to be in it!) I first gave my life to God when I was desperate for help, I don’t want to alway be lazy and needy… help me Lord to honor You. Good post Pastor Sun Hui East.
If the great men of God in the Bible placed so much importance on honoring God, then so should we. If our lives and actions honor Him, then His name brings respect to those who hear it. I believe that this is the bare minimum a Christian should see as their job, to walk in a way that protects and promotes the God that they claim to serve. I know I need give my tithe and offering money to the church regularity and I praying for the Lord to give me courage to do that despite my tight financial situation. You always push us to do the right thing, I know you are a good person Pastor Sun Hui East.
