Pastor Sun says, “Don’t be like the Rich Man”

In 2 Timothy 3:1-5, the Bible tells us that in the last days, men will be lovers of money. There are many people in this world who have no peace because even though they have money, they are paranoid and fearful. They don’t trust others. All because of money. They are miserable and unsatisfied because the only path to true and lasting satisfaction is through Jesus.

In Matthew 19:16-24, Jesus spoke to a rich young ruler, who was trying to find a solution for the fear and concern that he had about his future. At the same time, he was also trying to show how good he was because he kept the Ten Commandments.

If you want to enter the kingdom of God, you must first keep the commandments of God. The key, though, is to keep them with your heart, not just with your body. Keeping the commandments of God means that we love God and others with agape, unconditional love. Agape love is God’s kind of love.

Second, you must serve God. This means that you give whatever you have and follow Jesus. You must give up your comfort and security. This is what the rich man struggled with. This is also what we struggle with because we forget that everything we have belongs to God and that He is in charge.

If you want to enter into the kingdom of God, you must follow Jesus. In this lifetime, we don’t get that many chances. The rich man only got this one chance to follow Jesus. When you have the chance, take it. Take it by force. You must fight for your chance and be determined to follow Jesus. This will probably mean that you must give something up. That’s why the rich man didn’t want to follow Jesus. But just remember, all good things come from God. God is in charge of our money, our health, our children, our marriage, everything.

Don’t lose your chance to follow Jesus. Don’t lose your chance to enter into the kingdom of God. Don’t reject God’s plan for your life because you love the things of this world. God is in charge. All good things come from Him.

God bless you!

  2. I know that I don’t like to give up things… I guess I need to be more unselfish. Thank you for bringing up the tough things Pastor Sun Hui East.

  3. I appreciate learning about agape love, it is very hard to understand, but I know it is real. I know it is the only love that brings happiness. Pastor Sun Hui East, I would like for you to post again about this topic.

  4. Well, as the saying goes Pastor Sun Hui East, ” money is the root of all evil”. That’s exactly what happened in this story!

  5. Years ago, I did have money, lots of it. I know now that I was full of pride, Pastor Sun Hui East, I know that is what you’re talking about. Maybe, if I’d been more humble about my business & not thought it was “all my doing” , God would have continued to bless me financially. He had to take it all away to get my attention. I’m actually glad He loved me enough to do that, but I wish my heart had not been so hard. The Lord is re-building my business & blessing me now… however, He’s keeping me humble, and I’m staying “on my knees” before Him!

  6. I also had an problem with giving myself all the credit for my financial/business success. I really did think that I was just one of the “lucky ones” born smart and handsome. I was SO proud of coming from a wealthy, “known” family & having an education at that “important” university. I may have continued in that mindframe always if the Lord had put me in a different culture or time. He chose to allow me to have my business at an all time high in September of 2011. Not much more needs to be explained, but I had a humiliating fall. That was the first time I ever saw you spek Pastor Sun Hui East. I think, before that, I would have mocked you. At that point though, I wanted to survive, even if it meant that “I” wasn’t my own answer.

  7. Good post Oastor Sun Hui East. I like your messages. I also appreciate your “scripture of the week that you put up on Wednesdays . I share it with my co-workers and the actually like it, despite the fact that most are not Christians.

  8. I used to think that I was doing well because I had a great income. Truthfully, I had no peace, just spent my time thinking about keeping my money safe. Pastor Sun Hui, I let the worst things catch up with me…

  9. My niece from Pennsylvania sent me one of your books Pastor Sun Hui East. She sent it to me about a year ago. It was a tough read, lots of conviction, but it actually mad a big change in my spiritual walk. I really appreciate what you are doing through your teachings and now your film company. Know that I will always be praying for you and pointing others in your direction! Great posts, so glad you started a blog!

  10. I don’t want to be like the man in this parable Pastor Sun Hui East. I’m afraid I have made those type of decisions in the past. The worst part of it though, is that I was far enough from God that I didn’t see it as “leaving Him”. Now, I can clearly see that it was moving to the “wide path” and stepping away from Jesus…how terrifying!

  11. I’m afraid that I have behaved like the rich man… I’m not proud of it, but can see what I used to be so clearly now. I come from a long line of those who “serve mammon, not the Lord”, as my parents & generations before then were all lost. So terribly sad for them, so incredibly grateful to Jesus for my salvation! Thank you Pastor Sun Hui East for your ministry, I actually think that if I hadn’t heard you at that revival meeting that night 7 years ago, I would still be lost. God bless you for your work in His kingdom!

  12. That hits “the nail on the head”, the law of the Lord has to be obeyed in our hearts, not just in our behavior. I’m glad you talked about this Pastor Sun Hui East.

  13. I think, as the economy has changed during the last decade, the reality of what the Lord is talking about in this passage is so evident. We allow money to control us, we allow our minds to be focused on our finance. We should be resting in God, trusting Him & working for Him. I’m glad you are teaching about this Pastor Sun Hui East, good stuff.

  14. I do believe in both hell and in heaven, you can NOT buy salvation with money. Only our relationship with God can save us! Powerful words Pastor Sun Hui East.
